In the past year, I managed to lose ~15lbs and dropped my BMI from 28.3 to 25.2. I went from a size 10-12 to a 6-8. Yet I can't seem to accept that I actually look better now.

I don't believe people when they tell me I look good - I just assume they're being polite. When I try on more fitted clothing, I can still see fat, and fall back to the same, comfortable, more flowing clothes. I still reach for size 10 pants/skirts, then have to go back and get smaller sizes when I realize the 10 is practically falling off my hips. I don't believe that my body's actually smaller - I think the clothing lines are just changing their sizing schemes.

How did/do you deal with this?

I joined this website when my BMI was 22 and I still had 'love handles', not everyone is at their ideal weight at BMI 25 (or 22 for that matter)

I agree that it is very hard to notice weight-loss on yourself or notice that you are any smaller than when you started. I have lost approx. 30 lbs, and I don't notice it much until I look at photos of myself from 30 lbs ago. BIG DIFFERENCE! Seeing yourself everyday, you forget what the 'real' beginning was like. My recomendation...take photos along your journey of yourself (and measurements).

Its funny about the clothes...before I started my health change I had an entire closet of XL shirts that were all mostly too small. I was really inbetween XL and XXL. Now down 30 lbs, my entire closet of XL shirts are mostly too big. I am closer to Large now. Either way, my entire dam* closet has never fit me very good! Another 30 lbs, and I will really be looking forward to treating myself to a new wardrobe. I'm going to be like Eddie Murphy from the movie "The Klumps" when he suddenly loses 200 lbs and goes shopping for clothes...."Gimme SPANDEX,....ALL SPANDEX!". Seriously though, I will be buying some dam* hot duds.

The clothing lines have changed their size schemes for women. Not sure if this holds true for men, probably not though.  It's called vanity sizing and it's actually been going on longer than it seems.  In the 1950's Marilyn Monroe wore a size 16 and you know she wasn't as big as a size 16 from today.  The best I can figure is that today's sizes compared to about 10-15 years ago have changed by a size depending on the brand.  What used to be a size 4 fits like you're a size 6.  It's all crazy, I know.  It's just a way for designers to get women to buy their clothes.  If that size 4 fits and you're really a size 6 you'll feel awesome that you can fit a size 4 and will be more likely to buy.  It all comes down to money and greed by clothing designers.

Also the mind plays tricks on us.  As crazy as it seems apparently it can take your mind quite awhile to catch up to the weight loss.  People can lose a lot of weight, look great, but in their mind they still see the fat person they were.  I think they call it phantom fat.  I feel it myself to some extent.  People keep telling me how great I'm looking and I just don't feel that great.  It has gotten better and my mind is catching up some but I still have a ways to go.

Also just wanted to say that if you've lost 15 pounds then you are INDEED smaller.  It's not a huge loss so you may not see it as much as others.

I just seem to get very offended when someone tells me I have lost weight. I don't know. Its not their fault. I've lost like 17kgs now and everyone seems to be treating me better... And I am really annoyed about it. I guess its because I am mad at myself for being fat in the first place.

I also find it weird that my clothes are sagging. Some I still wear anyway. It also devastates me to have to throw really nice things out.

Sqzee- I am just the opposite. It is actually aggravating that I'm not getting nearly enough compliments about losing weight. I need more input than that. I've lost about the same weight as you and nobody is saying sh*t about it. WTF? I've gone from 40" pants to 35" already, you'd think that was a big difference...

Clothes-wise, I cant wait to buy clothes that are MUCH smaller. I cant wait to get rid of everything I own. I think I'll donate it to Goodwill. I've had my wardrobe for way too long anyways.

Going from 40" pants to 35" pants is a BIG difference Tour.  Be proud of that fact! I've gotten rid of a lot of fat clothes over the past months and it absolutely feels fabulous. I don't want any of them.

Whats kinda cool is, about 6 weeks ago I bought some pants purposely too small (for the future) at size 34. I can actually wear them now, which is much sooner than anticipated. I still have 30 lbs to go...I guess I should have bought some 32's:wink:
