I'm female, 5'3 and currently 124 lbs. I had my second baby 12 months ago and breastfed him until last month.
I started intentionally trying to lose weight two months ago, eating around 1400-1500 calories and working out sporatically ...I slowly lost 5 lbs. Now that baby is weaned, I am down to 1200-1300 calories and working out 5+ days a week. (aerobics MWF, running or eliptical Tues,Thurs with strength training, and frequent walks pushing double stroller). I'm doing a 20-25% fat/ 40-50% carb/ 30-35% protein ratio and getting 25+ grms fiber. I aim for 80 oz of water a day and eat nothing but fruits, veggies, lean meats, and air popped popcorn and/or granola bars with added fiber.
I lost 2 lbs in a week and then gained back one. I had trouble with constipation for a few days and have noticed that even if not constipated, I still don't move my bowels everyday. Is that normal given an adequate intake of fiber?? Could my pound I gained back be water retention? I am most definately burning more calories than I consume, so why isn't the number on the scale moving??

| Your unadjusted RMR is 1250-1300 (depending on your age - you didn't state it) and you shoudn't eat less than number. Water fluctuation is normal - expect it and live with it. If you're eating more veggies you might need (even more) water to avoid constipation and keep things moving (this is something I found). You could still be heading for progress.

| The pound gained back could be bowel retention. I've gotten into the habit of weighing myself before and after doing the deed and it can make quite a difference on the scale.

| It seems like you upped your exercise by quite a bit, it could be muscle mass developing.

just wondering if you had any more success with the weight loss. i too am trying to get rid of the pregnancy weight. im also petite at 5'3" and before pregnant was a steady 113 lbs. my son is 10 months and i am still 25 lbs over that and its KILLING me. ive been eating healthily since he was born and have been working out 4 days a week for the last 6 weeks and haven't lost one pound. it's so frustrating, bc ive never had to watch my weight before (im 32) and ive never dieted bc i have always been thin. sometimes i am so discouraged im scared that i might be this size forever, which is really doing a number on my self esteem. i saw a dietician and she was a waste of my time- she considered rasberry jam a "fruit". i eat about 1500 or so calories a day- lean protein, complex carbs, fruits and veggies, and some good fats. ive upped my activity to 5 days a week (either power-walking with the stroller for 3 miles, yoga, elliptical for 45 mins, also strength training 3 times a week- although i just started the strength training last week-) and still nothing. i find myself hungry all the time. the dietician said maybe i am not eating enough. maybe? youre the expert i wanted to tell her, tell me what i need to do. basically the meal plan she gave me was very similar to what i do now, so i know nutritionally speaking i am on the right track.
i really want to lose this weight. im 139 on a good day, thats 26 lbs ive been carrying around for 10 months. any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. im desperate. thank you. someone please help. Last edited on 13 October 2009 01:44 am by christne12377

If you would post one of your exact workout routines I can take a look at it.

i do one of the programmed workouts on my elliptical for 45 mins, its the one for weightloss and is called the Contender's Course and fluctuates between resistance. i do this about 4 days a week. on the days i dont do the elliptical (and sometimes even when i do) i do powerwalking for 3 miles, which takes about 45 mins, and i push my son in the stroller. i do this about 3 times a week. i also incorporated some weight lifting into my routine, 3 times a week for 20 mins, a dvd that takes active rests so im getting some cardio in there too, i use 5lbs and 8 lbs. i know im pushing myself with all of this, bc i feel sore all the time.
i just cant understand why i cant seem to lose even one lb. it is very frustrating.
