Hi everyone, I'm 19 years old and relatively new to exercising and dieting. I've been hitting the gym for about a month now and I don't see any results on the scale. Sometimes I "feel" a little healthier but not seeing any results on the scale discourages me A LOT. I always read about people's successes in losing inches and I'm just so amazed. I can't seem to reach the same success.

My main concern is my stomach area. I’m just having a really hard time trying to get rid of it. I’m 130lbs but only 5 foot. Ideally I’d like to lose maybe 18lbs. I heard sticking to cardio is the way to go but I don’t know how much I should be doing. I feel comfortable at 30 minutes on the elliptical but still, no results. Am I just expecting too much too fast?

Also, I read that cardio helps lose fat all around. Is this true? If it is, how do I stick to cardio but not lose my butt? Can I achieve a nice, firm glute through exercise without making it too small?

I also want a shaped back and less flabby arms. I’ve been working on a couple of machines at a local gym but I don’t know if it’s enough.

My main problem is that I’m not seeing results and it sometimes makes me want to quit. What should I do? Also, what’s the best way to lose inches along my waist?

What have you guys done to see results and how long did it take?

I have read and re-read your post and I can't see anything about food, calories eaten or a deficit, so let me ask you straight: how many calories are you eating and what calorie deficit are you creating?

(and have you read the tutorial?)

Yes.

For example if you have a calorie deficit of 500 every day (created through a combination of eating less and exercising more, for example) you can expect to lose 4lb in 4 weeks)

For the goal of burning calories in order to create a calorie deficit (together with eating less food than before) - the most effective exercises are those at intensity you can sustain for say at least 45 minutes (depending on your fitness level this might be walking, or jogging, cycling, eliptical, aerobics class, intervals (walk - jog - walk - jog etc.) anything that involves moving your legs and increases your heart rate is a good bet

For the goal of not losing your butt, exercises targetting that muscle group should help - for example squats and lunges. To start with you can do these without weights but they'll be more effective with resistance (weight) added.
