Hi! I was curvy but cute prior to having my two children. Now that description no longer applies and I'm tired of it!
When I was teaching it was easier for me to watch what I ate because I was in the classroom six hours a day. Now that I am home with my kids boredom or stress gets to me and I reach for food.
I have a much easier time exercising than I do dieting. I have been exercising (walking 20 miles a week and taking a Zumba class) since September. I have not noticed any significant weight loss and I suspect its because my eating habits are horrendous.
I joined this forum in the hopes that I will learn some self-discipline in regards to food. I also hope to lose a few pounds while I am at it!!!

| Make sure to eat lot's of fruits and veggies, it helps curb your appetite. Start slow, if exercising is easier, instead of going on a diet add the good foods to your diet. When you get used to that, try cutting out stuff one at a time. Example, if you drink soda, give that up, next candy then fast food, and so on and so forth. Hope I helped! Good luck!

Thanks Once Upon a Thin Girl I like the idea of adding good foods to what I already eat as opposed to going on a "diet". That change of perspective makes a big difference. Once I even begin to consider a diet, I panic and start eating like a horse. You know the old "I'll start on Monday" deal? The kind that gives you the weekend to pig out? I have been known to give myself an entire month to pig out!!!

| I started out that way because I had the same problem. It seemed as soon as I started a diet I would just gain weight, because I was always pigging out, I felt like I was starving. I wasn't of course, but I really had to trick myself into eating right. It's been a long journey but it's been worth it. Good luck!

| I am a horrible emotional eater. My biggest hurdle will be conquering the urge to eat when I am mad, sad, bored, happy, etc.

| Exercise makes you hungry. Your body is probably telling you to eat more now that you're exercising. It's tough when you are an emotional eater. When you're upset go outside instead of in the kitchen. Exercise is usually the hardest part. Good luck!!

20 miles a day? Wow that's pretty good. I also like Zumba & all the salsa classes too. Step is also one of my favorites! Good luck

I had a friend that used to run 10 miles a day and she still had some flab on her but she was petite to begin with so it didn't really matter much.
I relate to the whole "I'll start my new "diet" on Monday" thing too. In fact For months I have been talking about getting out and going for 30 min walks in the mornings before breakfast. But I haven't. I just don't have anyone to go along with me. I wish there was. My boyfriend doesn't want to go and I think I have been using his not wanting to go along with me as an excuse to no get out there and go. Once I get started I bet it will become a good habit.
I've heard eating things less processed and more whole foods style is fantastic. And like stated earlier in this thread eating lots of fresh veggies with all their good carbs and fiber help fill you up curbing your appetite and helping with digestion too. I also try to drink water before during and after meals.
Also, I guess calling it a "diet" is supposedly bad psychology. It's more of a "change of lifestyle" A necessity for preventative health measure that you can't switch on and off. It's like the old dog learning new tricks saying... I have to retrain myself to buy and eat the good stuff.
