I totally understand the gnats dive bombing the face part!
They like to swim in drinks too!
I did 30 mins of fast walking (almost a jog) with my boyfriend today.
He actually went with me and was challenging me the whole time! He was not even breaking a sweat either the big show off! I take two or three steps for every one that he takes!!!)

Wow BJD, what you did yesterday is amazing! I appreciate how hard all that stuff is, because I've done some of it, but never all in the same day!!

Doing this with you guys has actually given me some guideline to go by and be more consistent. My boyfriend, Dave, won't be able to go do much today because he was working very very late.. or rather early.. he got home after 7 am. :( So he is still sleeping right now.
I did a brisk 30 min walk this morning but nothing else.
Helen is watching her diet too!

I just noticed I messed up the chart for you. It will be fixed in a few minutes. Sorry about that.

We have the paint and the trim paint....and our home is 2600 sq ft...so you can imagine... its gonna be a BIG job.....cant wait to see how our blue comes out!!! :)

Well I got some---middle back--- but I think it will be gone tomorrow.
Tonight a fast walk to and from the track, 4 laps (~1/3 jogging, 2/3 walking), approx 2 miles total.
If I keep going to the track I got to get a pair of those pants with the stripe down the side. Shorts are out of the question. And next time I'm going to splash water around my neck and armpits before I leave the house so I'll look like I fit in.

For last week's chart, my Saturday is "missing"- I posted it but it didn't make the leap to the chart. It was 90 minutes cardio and 25 minutes strength. Sunday was nothing... got that right and I didn't even post it haha!
Today's (Monday) was 25 minutes on treadmill jogging (2.1 miles) and 25 minutes on the elliptical. I did 12.5 minutes on the treadmill, then same on elliptical, then repeated... neat way to play with heart rate and keep me interested too! It was 97 degrees out today and I really really didn't want to work out...

Sorry MJ, I got the Saturday corrected, I think.
Let me make sure I got today (April 27) correct. I assume you mean 12.5+12.5 then another 12.5+12.5, then stop, for a total of 50 minutes?

Ok, everyone is kicking butt today. Mine is 150mins. cardio and 20mins. strength. I started out the day with my exercise bike then moved on to walking. After that I did the wii, strength and cardio, then moved on to the elliptical. So, all in all a great day for exercise...
Hope tomorrow goes as well.

Awesome job everyone! I enjoy home remodeling type work so much! But the next day there may be sore muscles! I think I read someplace that washing a car would be beneficial as workout so I would count that too. All of the squatting and scrubbing and running around the car....

This group is awesome, between washing cars, baling hay, builidng fences, painting houses I can't beleive the exercise. I am truly humbled, I sit at a desk all day, or drive around visiting clients and on weekends I look for a quiet corner with my book and I read. I am far more like our mascot Helen, I struggle to do one push up . You guys are terrific.

Good Morning Workout Team! :)
All I know is that I barely sat on the couch long enough this last two days to watch an entire episode of Star Trek on sci fi......that is how busy i was...so all in all i feel great! My heel isnt hurting, I wore sturdy clothes, got sunburned but that is the worst of it.
For today, I ended up doing more yard work. I planted some more periwinkles that was about 35 min of digging squating bending walking etc....and then i moved 16 cinder blocks in about 20 min time about 45 feet, one way trips. I was outside from 645 to 845am I shoveled and moved the horse poo...25 min because we left it over the last two days... then i watered our back yard area, the orchard and the side yard as well as I raked an area clear that is about 25x45 so I have already done quite a bit today...that would put me at
2.15 hours (124 min) of cardio
40 min of strength...for today..
:) I love summer because i am outside working burning and not really working out...its a nice way to get exercise! :)

I have to confess....the weather in Jersey has been so beautiful that I didn't even realize how many days transpired since I posted my exercises on this challenge. I have been keeping track though if that counts for anything.
Wednesday, 22nd: (Cardio) 30 min stairmaster (strength) 60 min of various machines ranging from 20-80 pounds...3 sets of 15 on each, abs were 4 sets of 25
Thursday, 23rd: (Cardio) 45 min brisk nature walk
Friday, 24th: nothing....was in a bad mood
Satuday, 25th: (Cardio) Outdoor activites with the children, I'd average it to 45 mins
Sunday, 26th: (Cardio) 3 hour walk on Atlantic City boardwalk ~ full lenth and back
Monday, 27th: (Cardio) 30 mins on Recumbent Bike
I PROMISE to post my exercise for today this evening after work.

lol I hiking my way to the laundry mat with a load of laundry and my bottles of soap and softener. :)
About 50 mins total walk there and back.
I can hardly do one push up but just doing the reverse or slow lowering motions of it helps build those muscles. Currently I just do assisted style ones. Either with knees on the floor or hands up on some furniture.
:)
Today I found Helen relaxing with her video games... She seemed embarrassed when I found out she wasn't working out!

I love Helen, she is so cute.
Not much for today, Tuesday 35 minutes cardio, no strength. It's in the 90's here's , I hate the heat, I am already dreaming about snowshoeing. It's going to be a long summer if I don't suck it up and stop my whining. OK, I'm over it.

Wow Hiker! In the 90's, I am jealous. I like it when it's warm out. I hate the cold with a passion. lol, my hubby is like you. He will be complaining when he gets home that it is hot out already.
I have done some exercise today, but I am waiting till the end of the day before I report in. Just in case I do some more....

Ok, back to report 110 mins. in cardio. Pretty much all walking, at a good speed. I had only two in the stroller for half of that. Then after they went home did it all over again.
When I got home I hoed in the garden for about a half hour. I don't know if you can count that for strength or not. If not, add it on to my cardio....
I am pretty tired after all that. So, going to try and hit the hay early tonight.
Ps: It's a good thing Helen is not a rabbit. Because, they are really annoying me right now with planting my garden and all. Helen, tell your relatives to get some video games like you have and leave my garden alone...

I just had no desire to do any type of strength training today. That's pretty pathetic considering that I had to sit and stare at all the equipment at work for 8 hours!!! lol. I did get some good cardio in however.
30 mins StairMaster (level 4), 30 mins recumbent bike (level 5); 10 mins row machine.
I wanted to tell you all that while I was on the bike I was reading this month's Prevention magazine and there is a great workout regimen for 2 weeks that incorporates strength and cardio. You don't need a gym membership to do it. Check it out!!!

Cindy it's a good question about activities and whether they should count as strength or not. It doesn't really matter to me, but here's the way I reasoned for myself.
When I do strength I try to push several muscles in a group until they burn. Sunday I did a lot of shoveling probably strengthened arms and back, but the only muscle that made me stop doing what I was doing was my back (and I can still feel it today ). Otherwise I stopped because I ran out of energy or my feet hurt, so I didn't count it as strength.
It's a tough call. Whatever you all think....
dmg, thanks for the link, I am going to try a couple of those exercises.
Did strength for about 35 minutes today. Concentrated on legs, hips and abs.

OMG. I am a strength training bum... a cardio beast... as my son would say. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill again today (walked 2 miles @ 2-5% incline). Then I did 20 minutes on the elliptical. Total cardio = 50 minutes.
I told myself I would do the strength stuff before Biggest Loser... OK, after BL... OK, before bed... nope, didn't do it. Tomorrow I have no time to get really sweaty before my son's track meet, so that 20 minutes minimum strength training will be calling my name baby!!
Oh, yes, Nancy, I did mean 50 minutes total yesterday. Sorry for not making it clear. Thanks for taking care of our chart! So great to see it laid out for me... no excuses~

I didn't do any exercise yesterday!!! Had visitor in until late last night and didn't want to be rude leaving them while I ran on treadmill.
I'll do it this morning and I've got Salsa starting tonight. Now that's what I call fun exercise. As someone who hates all false type of exercise ie. gym, machines etc. I like to hear about exercise thats a lifestyle, ie chasing goats, building and fixing fences and roofs, paining, digging, planting etc. The good thing about that type of exercise is you not only benefit from it physically (and mentally) you get to see the results in more than one way.

hello nancy!
i was just checking out the chart and I saw that you still have me down for 90 min cardio yesterday, would you mind changing it to 124min? I went out and did more work and revised my post in the late afternoon. I just want to keep myself accountable for my times.. :) Thanks very much!
As for today, yep another bad headache is ailing my efforts but i am up, i am washing clothes, changed the bed sheets and i am trying not to cry because it hurts so bad...argh...i get so tired of these headaches....and nothing i can do has yet to really cure them......anyone have any suggestions? i could sure use it!
I will try to get in a workout, poss. the bowflex...Also we are planning more landscaping, we are going to remodel our existing old deck, cut it reshape etc...but to do that we first have to move about 60 pavers....that will be my job this week until sunday when D will get started on that remodel...so I will be integrating that into the workouts all week but today, i am not sure if i will take that on....depends on how the head goes as the day progresses....
I will post later on how my progress comes along...everyone is really kicking butt on this challenge...good job guys!!! You ALL ROCK!!!

Hey everyone!
Did 30 more min walking with my boyfriend last night (4/28/09). Went to the store and back.
Not feeling so good today so I may just lay around and be a slug. I just feel really tired.
Hey BJ!!! You get migraines often? There's a few different things that can cause it spanning from super simple (i.e. under hydration / lack of caffeine/looking at t.v. or computer screens too long, wearing the wrong kind of glasses); to rare cases (food allergies like MSG and medicines and what not.) And the down right scary ones (Medical conditions like tumors or clots) There's also a rare medical condition i came across a while back that caused people to have headaches so bad they would be throwing up. No one had beleived them when they said something was wrong with them. I remember reading about a little girls that had it and her parents treated her like she was just trying to get out of school so they would send her to school anyway and the school would have to stick her in the nurse's office all day.
And I get scared when people say their backs hurt because of fear of buldging discs or nerve impingments and stuff!
I recently have been doing more back work outs and trying to incorperate more core training exercises. Without strong back muscles were more susseptable to injury no matter what the task is!

Today, mj and me took a nice walk/jog with her stroller (zoom zoom)..50 min total for Cardio. My head feels better, its that time of the month i bet....usually hit me hard before then. I have PMDD, so headaches are part of that package..they are better, by far just alot more intense with less of them now... argh...love the hormones!
Have a great day all!

Farm day. Left my mom's house at 11:20 along the inner road through the woods on our property clearing fallen trees/limbs. This road hadn't been traveled on since November. Finished the complete circle at 1:03. Walked all the way, carrying a girlie-chain saw, very hilly, while my mom drove along on the EZGO (gas powered 2 seater). It's about a mile and a half I think.
In case you're wondering why I'm always clearing fallen trees. Well 3 yrs of drought, 30 yrs of pine beetles and poor soil, topped off with 6" of snow and then 60 mph winds---the place was a mess this spring.

Hi BJD I was going to suggest drinking plenty of water. I know a few people who suffer from severe migraines and they were advised to drink water at frequent intervals.
Went to Salsa tonight 60 mins...now that's what I call a FUN way to exercise. It really is enjoyable and it must be working some muscles as my legs are feeling it.

well we started painting today. i painted with the roller on a long handle from 1pm-530pm. My shoulder is very sore, I am very tired. I havent ever encountered such effort in painting a house! With the wind, the heat from the sun and the stucco being soo uneven....we already used a whole 5 gallons! and havent even finished a third of the house...wow. Tomorrow we start again!
Please put me down for 250min of cardio for thursday....i guess there would be some strength too, but i dont know how i would figure that..i just know how sore my shoulders are! Bugga BUgga!
Its intimidating how big this house is...its 2600 sq ft laid out kinda like a "w" so you can imagine we have 1 1/2 sides of a w done! We have a loooong way to go!

BJD I know how tiring painting can be. I've been sanding and painting my kitchen cabinets. There is a certain angle that you have to hold your arms that just kills me. In fact I've been trying to figure out how to strengthen those muscles, without much success.
Anyway today I mowed the front lawn and around the edges of the back lawn for 34 minutes, leaving an almost perfect 80'x50' rectangle in the middle for tomorrow.
Is that cheating?
Actually I probably couldn't have finished it all today anyway without a break, it is so hot and humid. Yech!
For strength I concentrated on only arms and shoulders. Don't seem to be making as much progress with the legs lately as at the beginning, so decided to give them a rest this time. I hope it's because maybe they are getting more workout than I think with the "chores" lately, but it could also be lack of sleep. We'll see I guess....
