I just turned 19 two days ago, and I decided the best birthday present to myself is to start exercising.
The thing is, I work third shift at work, so my schedule commonly is 10pm- 5am. I have found that the time that is easiest for me to stick to is about 6am when I am settled in from work. I then take a quick shower and am asleep by 7am... I was just wondering if exercising right before I go to sleep is as effective as any other time? I usally get about 7 hours of sleep after the workout if that information helps at all.
Thank you. :)
And I am Samantha, by the way. New to the site.
**EDIT:
Incase you also needed to know my method of exercising, I have a stationary bike that I use. I work up a good sweat on it, too. :)

| I don't see a problem with it, unless it interferes with your ability to sleep

Hope you had a good birthday, Samantha. (I'm new here too :) )
You may be right about the present thing, cardio is a great 'lifter uper.'
I wouldn't consider right before sleep the most effective time for a cardio workout. Many people have issues going to sleep after a workout, it can raise the body temperature fast and put the circadian (sleep-wake cycle) slightly out of whack in them. Although I'm guessing you can sleep, so that's not an issue.
In the early morning is normally considered the most effective for weight loss (and by early morning...I mean when you get up, whether that be night or day). One reason being, you kick start your metabolism and since you've had no food while asleep, your body has to burn its storage (i.e. fat and to some extent muscle) in order to supply the energy. When you go to sleep straight after a workout however, you are putting a slight hold on the metabolism, since it tends to slow down when you sleep. If done in the morning it can continue throughout the day. Not to mention, it leaves you feeling great for the rest of your 'day.'
For weight loss, and general fitness, most would recommend a couple sessions spread throughout the day but this doesn't work for most peoples time. That said though, if that is the time you find - and the time you can STICK to like you said, then it is good. Better that, then the occasional bit of exercise when you can 'get around to it' in a more 'effective time.'
If possible, I'd recommend seeing if you could manage it soon after you get up (before eating)...but if not, keep it up. :)
P.S. Nice to know a female enjoys a good sweat. ;)
