I'm a 14 year old male, my height is 5 ft 6 in and I weigh 200 lbs. Way over what I should be. I guess some of it's heriditary but I can blame most on poor eating habits when I was younger. For a few months now I have been counting calories and exercising at least three times a week for an hour. I'm still active the other days, just not at a gym. I haven't lost any weight even though I try. I don't really watch what I eat, I just stay under 1700 calories a day. At the gym I usually start with 10 minutes on the elliptical (burning about 130 calories), then I lift weights for 45 minutes (I lift a lot more weight than my friends), finally I do 5 minutes on elliptical to cool down (burns around 50). I really haven't lost any weight. I'll fluctuate from 205 to 195 and back to 200. It doesn't make any sense. I really want to have a strict diet and exercise plan to lose weight over the summer to surprise my friends next year in HS (and hopefully get a GF). I'm always the butt of jokes (which I don't usually mind, I have a good sense of humor) and I really want to change that. I just want to be normal. My goal weight is 138. Please help.

(Also, I don't drink soda at all)

your goal is not reasonable
the safe rate to lose weight is max of 1-2lbs/week which in 3 months is 12(weeks)into 2=24 you could however extend it to 6 months
i think i know what your problem is- you have gained muscle and the fluctuation in weight is your fluctuation in water.
one way to get you to loose weight again is to use heavier weights than ur currently using as ur boby has gotten used to ur current weights.
hope this helps
and btw drink any kind of milk after your workout it will help build ur muscles which burn fat as it consumes calories.
so basically you need to build muscle and the fat will automatically come off.
i know from experience. i started 6 months ago at 180 with pushups, crunches etc progressively increasing over the months and now i am 142
good luck

I agree with crazyforabeemer in that its not a very good goal to try and lose that much quickly. People I know who have lost substantial weight in short time periods never kept it off long.

As for your plan it sounds more like you want to lose weight over building muscle but your workout sounds more geared to building muscle. Weight lifting does burn calories but if you'd like to lose weight I'd suggest spending more time doing aerobic exercise. Spend some more time on the elliptical or a tredmill. You might want to read up a little on the difference between aerobic (ex. running) and anaerobic (ex. lifting) exercise just to have a better idea.
