Well, I'm down 10 pounds as of today. I think it's been about 3 weeks since I started with Dr. Fuhrman's plan. I'm reading Eat for Health and have rediscovered smoothies. I put a lot of greens in them and just enough fruit and berries to cover the taste of all that green stuff. I bought this one big glass, it must hold close to 20 ounces, and I usually make enough to fill it once and then about 3/4 of the way when that's empty.
They taste good and my cravings have completely disappeared. I'm the lowest I've been in over a year and I'm not starving myself. This is great.

Sounds awesome. Can't wait to start this way of life. I love veggies and this diet I am on now, while producing weight loss, is slim on the fruits and veggies. Almost all of the recipes in E4H sounds soooo good.
As soon as we get our food stock reduced, we will be full-on this plan. I know that sounds like a terrible excuse, but I cannot afford to just throw out the food we currently have. We don't have too much junk food, I mean the meat stock...
But I haven't been buying any NEW forbidden foods since reading the book.
Nice weight loss BTW! I hope I am as successful. But I must say, reading that book... I actually wanted to gon on this "diet" not for the weight loss, but because the healthiness made complete sense to me!
I love smoothies! My husband will be glad to know that the greens can be covered up!

It's 12 pounds as of today. This has been the easiest 12 pounds I've ever lost. I'm not following his menu plans, I'm doing my own in accordance with his diet. Smoothies are a big part of keeping me full I think.
I think it's a good idea to use up what you have before you start on this full time. Veggies take up a lot of space in the frig and you'll need the room!

heey - nice. I can only hope I will see the same results, but I think mine will be slower. I only have about 15 - 20 lbs to go. 15 realistically, 20 hopefully
Yes, and this way, we won't be tempted ... I can't even believe how expensive groceries have become! I know the fresh fruits and veggies will be a little more, but I buy them now, along with the "extras". Hopefully by cutting out the extras, it will even out. Although, I don't know if I can ban my daughter from her crackers!

You know, I'm actually finding that my grocery bill is less doing the veggies. If I would remember to soak bean the night before instead of using canned beans, it would be even less. I've cut out all processed foods except for a few condiments and 100% whole wheat bread and whole wheat wraps. I've used the farmers markets some of the time for fruit which is sometimes less expensive, sometimes more.
It took a while to get used to eating this way, but I have to admit that I feel great and the weight is coming off. I want to lose about 17 more pounds which would put me at a "size 4 weight".

Another pound lost today.
Yesterday I was feeling light headed and checked my blood pressure. I take a mild blood pressure med. My blood pressure was very low. I called the doctor and she told me to stop taking the meds and check it the next two mornings and email her with the results. I know Dr. Fuhrman said in his books to be careful about medications when on this diet, but I never thought I'd see results after only a month. It would be great if I can get off the BP meds altogether.

oh yeah, of course -- I can see it working in a month. Congrats. You probably will get to that point! m(no meds)
size 4 -- awesome. Good to hear. S you probably weigh less than me. Which is a good thing. That means I will most likely get simliar results.
Try a quick lentil soup. Can of low sodium chicken (or veggie) broth. 2 cups of water. 1 cup of dried lentils. Add onion powder, garlic powder (or fresh of both), cayenne (if desired) and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, simmer for 20 minutes or until beans are soft, stir occasionally. Uncover, simmer for 30 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally with a whisk. You can add more water or cook longer depending on how you like it. Sometimes I like soup, sometimes I like refried-bean-like texture. If you are having a treat, add some feta cheese when serving.
So how do you do with the snacking? I have a hard time sometimes, because, while I love eating veggies, etc., sometimes I feel they only fill me for a few hours. I find myself hungry - truly hungry, not just wanting to eat - sometimes hours before the next meal time. I saw in the book snacking was a no-no. I hate to stuff myself at any one meal, just to get full enough to last...but when I start getting too hungry, I start eating BAD foods. Any advice?

I usually don't feel that much like snacking with the smoothies. I think the volume of liquids in them (2 glasses that are around 20 ounzes) keeps me full. But if I feel like snacking I do. I snack on fruit or air popped corn. I really eat a lot of fruit throughout the day. The thing is, that I'm not really hungry that much between meals, not like I've been on other diets. I guess I should pay attention to the no snacking rule, but I'm still losing, so I don't worry about it. I just snack on whole foods only, nothing processed.
You'll probably lose even faster than I have if you have more to lose. It always gets harder, the closer you are to your goal. But 13 pounds in a month isn't too bad. And I still have one day to go!

MMM I LOVE white popcorn in my stove popper!
Yeah, I say if you are still losing, you are doing something right! 3 lbs a week is awesome!
Are you doing the eat for life or are you on a phase with eat for health. I am going to do E4H, probably phase 1 a short time, although I think I could go right into phase 2 right away. I just wanted to take it slow and get acquainted. Plus, my husband will be doing it too. He eats like I do, except for the pop. He will have a really hard time giving up the coke zero. Baby steps!
I am 153, down from 163 with fat loss for idiots. I lost weight and went down sizes but-- Too much protein, not enough fruits, veggies and grains for me. Don't know why I thought going from mostly veggie/fruit eating to mostly meat eating would be good, but I did it. That is why I think I can follow the Dr. F's plan, I was doing things right, just not admitting to myself that I needed to cut out the cheez its, ya know? I know refined foods are bad for you, I think I have been moving toward this "diet" for years now, getting whole wheat bread, (no high fructose corn syrup), whole wheat pasta, brown rice. I realize that even with those, I would eat too much. I love crackers, but realize I can't have them. Although, there are whole wheat crackers out there... but still processed. I just need to step it up a few more notches and just cut it all out...
I am hoping to lose another 3 - 5 lbs this FL4I "cycle". Maybe with E4H, I can get down to the 130s. I have been <140 since early high school! ( I think I have some muscle too, I have always weighed more than how I look) -- but that would be great!!!!

Thats really awesome. You are making me very antsy to start! I will be getting rid of most of the food this week and should be ready to rock shortly.
What phase are you on? Or are you doing Eat to Live?

I guess I'm doing the Eat to Live since I'm not really eating much of any meat. I had two big slices of pepperoni pizza Saturday night, but that's about all for the animal products. I didn't even weigh myself Sunday because I knew tthat would cause at least temporary weight gain. But I was surprised on Monday morning to see that I lost. I'm back on the plan with my smoothies and lots of fruit and veggies again now.
The nice thing is how easy it's been. The only tough part is remembering to buy a lot of spinach during the week and other greens. I go through a one pound container of fresh spinach every 2 days, plus shredded cabbage and a lot of frozen berries.

speaking of the smoothies -- do you have the vitamix? I hate to go buy a new blender, but I was noticing mine is starting to #%@&! out. And I am fairly certain it will NOT blend spinach, etc. in any appetizing manner. I was thinking about just getting a food processor, since I have yet to own one.
What do you use?

I have a Vitamix. They blend anything but are very noisy. I think you could take a 2 x 4 and end up with sawdust! I don't like the small bottom for getting gooey things out. They get caught in the indentations, but for liquidy things they are great. It's very powerful.

| hmmm. Now I will have to re-think the vitamix decision. They are wicked expensive tho.

Well, I have to say that although I complain about having to use a spatula to get stickier things out of the bottom, if this one broke I'd probably buy another. I like that it has so much power to blend anything. They may have better containers now. The one I have is at least 3 years old. I think you can buy different containers for some models.

I haven't looked into it too much, only to see that there are several models, getting more expensive ... the lowest price is still high!
Oh well, I will have to save up. Buying Naked smoothies can add up quickly at 4 bucks a pop!

I bought mine at Costco. Every once in a while they feature them there. At $4 a pop you would certainly make up the difference quickly, even with the cost of fresh vegetables.

I am sure! I will look into Costco, my parents are members.
Thanks!

3 more pounds since the last time I posted. 17-1/2 altogether. I'm still drinking the green/fruit smoothies everyday and having very few cravings at all. It seems like when I do, it's after 9:00 at night. Maybe I just need to go to bed earlier!
jackknife, did you start yet?

Today is the day. I didn't get through all the junk in my house, but I am feeling so yucky with the stuff I have been eating. We had house guests and did a lot of eating out. I don't think I can take one more day of bad food.
Now I just need to get my daughter off the junk and back on the fruits and veggies. She used to like that stuff, now all she seems to want is bad food. Well, I shouldn't say that. I don't think she is too far gone yet, but we all need to get back on track. My husband said he would be ok with this, but now he is getting a little squeamish. I think he will come around though, once he sees the results and that it isn't a huge change.
I am doing the eat for health, which isn't as strict as the eat to live, I think. I am starting on phase one, so I don't have any reason not to follow it...
Congrats on the loss, I hope mine is as good, even though I am not doing E2L!

Well, considering that I eat a lot of things I shouldn't on the weekends, my diet is probably closer to the Eat for Health plan too. I think the thing to concentrate on is eating a pound of fresh and a pound of cooked veggies BEFORE you eat any of the things you shouldn't. That usually means I'm not hungry for the junk. Although this weekend I did have a couple slices of apple pie and some cottage cheese which I normally wouldn't eat. I'll wait til tomorrow to weigh myself.
Good luck on your eating plan. I'm glad you're starting today.

yeah, I was good all day, then had some baguette with olive oil and leftover thai for dinner. We have a shut down at the plant and I didnt get home until after 7.
Tonight, I will have some veggie pasta, I think.
I saw that -- a lb... I think I can guess at how much a lb is, but maybe I should just take a few measurements to gauge.
This eat for health actually gives you a week of menus for each phase. So I am trying to follow that as best I can. I like having meal plans, it keeps me reigned in -- if I have a list of things to eat, I will be more likely to eat them than my usual "ok, what is for lunch today" at 5am.. after I get used to what will fill me up best, I can go on my own.
mmm, I think tomorrow I will have my garden tomatoes, avocado, black beans and lime for lunch. oh, and some cilantro too -- chili powder and cumin?

Well, I started a few weeks ago and I will admit to having "bad" food here and there, but it is much less than I used to. I have not lost a pound and I feel more bloated than ever. I am not expecting a drastic weight loss, I pretty much ate a lot of veggies before. I know I may need some time to get used to the veggies and beans (which I also ate a lot of), but it has been over 2 weeks and I haven't seen the scale move an inch, except for up and then back down.
I know I haven't been completely faithful, but I definitely do not snack as much. And I am eating less at meals, trying to ride through my grumbling stomach in an effort to expel "toxic hunger".
I guess I am just back to my usual - can't lose weight but to exercise. It appears that it doesn't matter what I eat, if I don't exercise, it is useless (for weight loss).
I am not giving up, because I actually prefer this type of eating.
I am following eat 4 health and have read the eat to live, but can't recall all the specifics.
Bobbi - can you take me through an average day for you? what are your meals like and when do you eat them?
