im trying to burn fat fast right now and i am a newbie dieter. i am already totally dedicated to (in the long run) burn fat, build a little muscle and stay healthy for the rest of my life. im already pulling out all of the stops and made a thread a few days ago here:
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum26/5028.html
i need specific foods to stick by, maybe meal plans, healthy food links, whatever.
something came up today and now my new mission is to lose as much fat as possible by march 21st. im right at the 190 point at this moment, male, 25 years old. my goal weight right now is under 170, that is only 20 pounds...
at least for the next month i really dont even care if my dieting routine is healthy. im desperate to lose fat fast. are there good fat burning pills?
please, even if it isnt the safest, im willing to torture myself until the date above.

oh and in the other thread i said i was going to workout mon, wed, and friday but for maybe 15 minutes more. well im going to be working out mon-fri mornings including tue and thur for a solid hour. my workout only consists of jogging/speed walking with 1 or 2 pound weights. and i move my arms alot when i speed walk, in punching motions and other random movements. and i do at least 200 jumping jacks in that time. anything better for burning fat?

and just to add, i have lost at least 10 pounds since i started dieting about 20 days ago.
i cut back on stuff like junk food and sodas for my new years resolution and then super bowl sunday i really cracked down and now i want to burn as much fat off as possible in like 25 days. i can already tell a decent little difference since superbowl sunday in front of the mirrors and just feeling around my lovehandles and whatnot...

I'm really not sure what the best is......if you find out let me know.....I am trying to lose some weight too, it is just so cold where i live right now it is hard to go and walk, and here lately I can not even find the time to exercise.....and remember muscle weighs more than fat, so as you work out fat turns into muscle.....hope this helps some, if not when you find out let me know your secret.......kendra

well, i would suggest that you read Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. it's an ebook and give really great tips on food and exercise. even if you don't want to be a body builder.
other than that, i would suggest lots of veggies, lots of lean protien (fish, white chicken, turkey... you can also get protien from veggie sources), whole wheat (grains,, oatmeal...), fruit, water. hope you like the whey protein. it's supposed to be really good for you and very filling.

ok, i guess this is a dumb thread. i just feel like im eating WAY too much to actually be dieting by doing the 1500ish calories i was told to do.
im trying to do some damage to my fat in less than a month so im going to eat a good breakast each day, workout hard for 1 hour, eat something decent around lunch and then starve myself the rest of the day. i will be adding whey protein to this also.

hey. well, your deit, as far as what it consists of, sounds decent. i would add some veggies in there myself...
BUT- you do not want to starve yourself. actually, your body burns the most when your metaolism is up. it is up when you eat, especially harder to digest stuff like lean protien. so, in general, it is best to eat many times through out the day. say have 5 meals at 300 cals each. you shouldn't go more than about 3 hours without some type of food. or have larger meals, but snacks in between. if you odn't eat, your metabolism slows. really. this works. not eating will only leave you feeling ravenous and you are more likely to eat the not so healthy stuff and over eat... you will give into cravings more often. i would recommend that you eat breakfast, a snack, lunch, a snack, dinner, and a snack. you should eat within about an hour of working out to rebuild your muscles. really, this is highly recommended by numerous sources. you will feel better and the pounds will come off faster.

no, i would not suggest "skipping" any meal. what times of the day are you awake? do you go to be around 6? then sure, have your last meal around 4. are you up till 9, 10, 11? then no, don't stop at 4. it doesn't really matter if you eat right before bed (unless you are prone to heart burn or something). i have even read of people going to sleep then waking up later to get in enough cals (read Nir's diary- and he is one of the fittest people i know).
so no, don't skip any meals. you can keep your last meal light- that's fine, but your already "fasting" when you sleep for 8 hours (or whatever you sleep).
some people are afraid to eat right before bed, but really, i ate right up till bed time and ended up losing weight. i ate every 3 hours or so and did just fine. it took me a while because my diet did include plenty of wine (yeah, not so good when you want to lose)..... but i eventually went from 150-ish to 116. i am around 123 right now (neglecting to work out and not making the best choices have caused a slight gain... trying to get back to normal now).

Hey spockjon! My two cents:
In your first thread you said that you were a newbie to the whole dieting thing...so this is your chance to make your first weight loss the last time you have to do it instead of the start of a lose/gain back/lose again cycle. I totally get the feeling of wanting to take off the fat as quickly as possible by whatever works, and then settle down to a lifetime of healthy eating and exercise...but I want to warn you that IMO taking this approach is a set up to weight loss - followed by weight regain. The truth is that if you don't figure out a healthy, comfortable, sustainable way to eat/exercise while you are overwieght, the solution (and ability to do it) is not going to suddenly appear once you've lost the weight. It's boring and sometimes frustrating to take the slow and steady, learn as you go appoach - but it's less boring and frustrating than finding yourself on a new diet year after year.
It might be a good idea to define what "heathy eating" means to you personally and to what degree you can apply it - in a way you happily continue forever. Cause honestly, there's not one single carved-in-stone, one-size-fits-all definition of healthy eating. For instance, veggies are a healthy food...but if you've tried them in dozens of forms and ways of cooking - and discover that you just really don't like veggies - then there's no point in making yourself eat tons of veggies in pursuit of weight loss cause you it's just gonna make that double cheeseburger look even more tempting when you don't have the incentive of losing weight. From experience I have to say that if you're really committed to making your definition of healthy eating a part of your normal lifestyle, made up of foods you like to eat, not just feel you "should" eat, it's fairly easy to stay with it after the weight is lost....but if you're just doing it to lose weight...there's a greater chance that you won't care as much about sticking to your "healthy habits" post weight loss..... making it easier than you can imagine to slowly just "slip" back into whatever habits you started with.
I don't mean to sound negative...I think your enthusiam is great...it's just that I really think you'll have greater long term success if you take the time now to learn "how to eat in a way I can live with forever" rather than focus totally on learning "how to diet to lose weight for now". A good resource for learning about specific food (beyond the basic calorie/macros) is as http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you success.

"It might be a good idea to define what "heathy eating" means to you"
this is what i meant by this is a dumb thread. and i know what you mean about losing fast and then gaining later because i dont know how to eat right when that time comes but i kinda do now and im going to be watching out for the no no foods for ever now. nothing cooked in grease for me anymore. maybe someday but no time soon.
and you dont sound negative, you are absolutely right. my goal is to seriously burn this fat and later get a tiny bit toned and eat, at least fairly, healthy for the rest of my life. at least dont cook in grease and dont eat all the fattening bs.
thank you guys though, this is helping alot. i actually had my first person ask me about my weight yesterday. i think others have kinda noticed but just havent said anything.
and im going to do my morning stuff. just ate an egg sandwich and a glass of whole milk, i need to buy 1% or more OJ but it will be ok... :)

spockjon,
You definitely have enthusiasim. I wouldn't worry too much about mercury in tuna unless you are a baby or a nursing mother...which i highly doubt. If you are worried about it try eating smaller fish that don't live as long, like sardines. The big fish like albacore tuna and swordfish eat a lot of smaller fish and accumulate more mercury because of it. The Omega-3's are great for your cardio vascular system and brain.
As far as protein goes, I would recommend Met-Rx total nutrition shake. It has vitamins and good amounts of protein...with low calories. Try berry flavor, it is a little easier to mix and drink IMHO. The others seem like cake batter consistancy.

LOVEHANDLES ARE A BIOTCH! i just recently started going at it abit harder and bought some calorie burning pills and amino pills. i still dont really know what im doing but i want to continue with the fat burning and muscle building since im so close to actually having a decent looking body. im gonna get protein packed stuff again like tuna and shakes...
but yeah, thanks for all the advice guys! great forums...

Dude try lifting weights nothing burns fat like muscle. Don't use pills seriously if you are in it for the long haul.

I really liked the South Beach diet book. It has a list of foods you can and can't eat for each level of phases as well as meal plans. If you stick to phase 1 for longer than the week it says you will lose quite a bit as it is a low carb meal plan with tons of veggies and lean meats. No sugar or carbs though!
Don't worry about running/jogging right now unless you plan on running a race at the end of the month. I love a treadmill with a good walking program that goes to crazy inclines...you can burn a lot of calories just doing that for 30min a day. When you are ready you can run. Don't forget to build some muscle too! Some push-ups/reverse push-ups, bicycle crunches and variation of lunges will get you started!

Ok, I think to burn fat the most effective way as I have researched, is do to core exercises. Also, you need to have cardio and weights.
Foods that will help- have you research super foods.
Like eating walnuts
oats
fish
turkey
almonds
whole wheat everything- pasta, breads, etc
blueberries
apples
garlic
onions
You can do searches and see what kind of stuff you like to eat and put them in your diet. All of those foods have stuff to make you healthy. The healthier you are the better for losing fat and being at a normal weight.
Also, fiber- helps in losing weight
So, my suggestion is to do some research and see what works for you.
Also, make sure you are taking in enough calories so that you don't lose muscle instead of fat. If your goal is to lose fat and not weight, then that will make a difference in your scale readings every week.
Although you may be losing weight, you may also gain muscle, showing no lose on the scale at all. So, don't get discouraged, and take measurements to keep track.
That's about all I can suggest. Good luck to you....and keep us posted...
ps: I just have to say that it is great that you really want to do this and fast. But, to make lifestyle changes it takes time. Otherwise I think your just setting yourself up for the yo yo weight. You know,,,,,, losing allot, gaining allot. So, as peter would say on here " baby steps" . Take your time..... make it last....
