Wow, I've been trying to convert the recipe to US. Am really having to use my brain and a converstion program.
I posted one of my favorite versions on Mar. 17, 2007. It's nice that this recipe is so versatile! I do have mine in US measurements...........I just sometimes substitute which starchy carb I use. I really like the rolled barley flakes, but can't always find them The muesli adds crunch to the bars too, and a little chewiness with the raisins. I still love them!
My recipe is for a 4 qt. baking dish, and is about double Nevd's original recipe. I found one batch just wasn't enough..........and they freeze just wonderfully! I just took a couple out of the freezer this morning.
Hi! Thanks Nevd and other kind folks. Sorry about your phone line problem, Nevd. We all have our burdens to bear! I made a second batch and it was sooooo much better with real bran vs grapenuts. I guess I'll try some of the other suggestions as I go along. The bars are such a great idea because they are portable and good. I'm bad about taking off to run errands or something and having a blood sugar drop before I can get home. This way I can just throw a bar in my purse and eat it when I need it. It's great with coffee or with tea.
I have a real problem every day around 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. and these bars nip it in the bud! I sincerely mean the bars have alleviated the problem that I think caused a great deal of my weight gain to begin with.
